Healthy Eating: How to Do it

When hearing the words healthy eating, some of you might think that this would involve depriving yourself of the foods you love and mainly eating vegetables and fruits. Well, there is some truth to that but that’s not entirely true.

Healthy eating is eating a diet that you love, while getting all the nutrients that you need. How can this possibly happen? First off, consider the fruits and vegetables that you love in your daily consumption. Let’s say you love carrots and apples. Find a way that these foods would be included in your daily diet such as having carrot juice for a snack, and apple slices for lunch. Begin with this then slowly incorporate other fruits and vegetables into your diet, little by little.

Do not think of some foods as a “no”. It’s alright if you eat your favorite chocolate or pizza once in a while. The key here is to eat these foods in smaller portions. Have a smaller piece than the ones you usually had. Also, eat in a slow manner, so that your appetite will be fully satisfied. Our satiety lasts for 20 minutes so after that time period, your craving would be over. One technique to help you adjust to smaller servings is to use smaller plates and dishes. Plates sizes have increased in recent years, so using a smaller plate can help you better estimate healthier portion sizes. When you use dressings, use a teaspoon instead of a tablespoon.

Eating with others is one way of healthy eating. This way, you can watch out for what you eat and avoiding overeating. Overeating often happens in front of the television or when you are in front of the computer. Having a meal should be enjoyed. Take your time in chewing your food. This would also help in better digestion of the food you have taken in.

Before eating something, ask yourself if you are really hungry. If you are craving for something, ask yourself if you really need that certain food. Remember that you are keeping a healthy diet, and additional calories would mean additional weight for you. When you feel hunger pangs, try drinking a glass of water before opening the fridge for a snack. This is to make sure that you are really hungry and not just thirsty.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It does not matter if you eat a lot here for this will give you your energy needs through out the day. Also, when you have eaten your breakfast, the hunger pangs you will be feeling during the day will be lessened.

Remember that healthy eating is important to keep an optimum body functioning. It’s simple to start a healthy diet but maintaining it needs hard work.
